What Insurance do Tradesmen Need?
There is essential cover required in the form of Public Liability Insurance but many different trades require different types of cover. The main covers for tradesmen are as follows but this is not an exhaustive list and many further types of cover are available upon request.
Public liability insurance
Public liability insurance covers your legal liability for accidental injury or property damage claims made against your business by customers, members of the public or people you visit.
Employers’ liability insurance
Many tradesmen across the UK and Ireland are owner operated businesses, but if you have any employees, including sub-contractors, casual laborers and apprentices, you’re legally required to have employers’ liability insurance. When you have employers’ liability insurance, you are covered for legal liability if someone you employ is injured in the workplace or falls ill through a work related illness.
Additional covers for tradesmen:
Own tools and equipment cover
We’ll cover you for accidental loss, theft or damage to your own tools, plant and equipment – including your work tools, as well as any machinery, trailers, site huts owned by you.
Personal accident cover
If you or your business partner or director under the age of 75 is involved in an accident that results in death, permanent total disability, or loss of limb or sight, we can arrange cover in the form of a lump sum payment dependent on the level of cover taken
If a partner or director under the age of 75 is temporarily injured and left unable to work, we can arrange cover to pay their weekly wage until they in a position to resume working.
Hired-in plant equipment cover
We can also cover equipment you’ve hired to use in connection with your business, like constructional plant, machinery, tools or site huts, in case they’re accidentally damaged or destroyed in your care.
Contract works cover
If you’re building a new house or extending a property, and the site you’re working on is destroyed or damaged during the construction period costs can be overwhelming but with contract works cover, also known as contractors’ all risks insurance, we’ll protect you against accidental loss, destruction or damage – so you can complete the contract you’re working on.
